GMS PTA Meeting

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

7 pm - GMS Media Center


We will have 2 very important presentations for you:

Mathnasium

Is your child too smart for their math class? Mathnasium will challenge them to new heights. Is your child struggling in math class? Well, Mathnasium will provide the structure they need to master the content they are working.

The owners of our local Mathnasium math center will be presenting to our community. They will also be holding a raffle for one free month of math services. No purchase necessary. Everyone who attends out PTA meeting will be entered into the raffle to be held at the end of our meeting.


Naviance Student

Formerly known as Family Connection, is a web-based, mobile-friendly tool that helps schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life. Naviance is for students of ALL grades (6-12). The information presented will cover General use of Naviance and highlight the key lessons for each grade level. Naviance addresses four key areas of college and career readiness:

Self-Discovery

Career Exploration

Academic Planning

College Planning


You do not want to miss the PTA meeting. All members of our community are welcome, whether or not they are members of the PTA.


GMS International Night Is Back!

International Night at Gaithersburg Middle School is back! With your help, it will be better than ever!  Friday April 5!  Please support this amazing evening by sharing your Country of origin or ancestry with others.  Families and individuals are ask to show and share something with others...culture,dress, food, maps, flags. Tables will be set up for each county. Want to share a table with someone?  No worries,  grab a friend and be paired at the same table (please indicate on sign up you want to share and with who if possible). Go to the Sign Up Genius and start planning!


Interims

Interims are now posted on the MCPS portal.

Students, please make be sure to check your grades now that we are halfway through marking period 3.


Library Lunch Activities Day

Come and have lunch in the Media Center today for a Library Lunch Activities Day. Pick up a pass any time before lunch and come to the Media Center for fun activities. It’s game day! Bring your friends and play a game while you eat your lunch! See you there!


Student Service Learning (SSL) Hours

The deadline to submit SSL hours to qualify for the Superintendent's SSL award is April 5th. All hours must be submitted by this time in order to qualify. Students completing the 75-hour requirement for graduation by this time will receive the Superintendent's SSL Award.


No Academic Academy until March 27th.


Shoe Drive

Project Change is sponsoring a shoe collection at GMS from March 4 to May 4.

The donated shoes can be worn or new.

The shoes will go to micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations.

The collection box is in the main office.


Minority Scholars Meeting

Minority Scholars have a Viking Time meeting next Tuesday, March 12th during VT5 room 800. Teachers, please check your mailboxes for passes for those students. Also, Minority Scholars will be staying after school on Wednesday, March 13th for a Student Service Learning (SSL) activity. Meet in the cafeteria. Any questions, please contact Mr. Padilla, Ms. Hunsberger or Ms. Mesina.


The Respite Resource Fair of the Arc de Montgomery County

Come to the fair on March 23 from 10 am to 2 pm at The Activity Center at Bohrer Park Summit Hill Farm 506 S. Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg. Learn how unpaid primary caregivers, residents, can obtain short-term and occasional relief from their obligations and other supports. Get to know potential care providers and learn more about how respite care works. More information at www.thearcmontgomerycounty.org


AM and PM Student Drop-off Expectations

  • Please pull forward in the drop off loop when bringing your child in the morning. The traffic has been backing up onto Teachers Way and causing congestion.

  • Do not drop off students on Teachers Way or in the staff parking lot near the cafeteria. This is dangerous for our students and we want to ensure their safety.

  • Please be sure your child to ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at GMS.

Chromebooks

Remember chromebooks should not be taken to the lunch room.

Please leave your chromebooks in your locker.


Demystifying DORS (Division of Rehabilitation Services) - Workshop

Featuring Marcia Rohrer, Program Manager I, Maryland State Department of Education,

Division of Rehabilitation Services

This meeting is open to all who want to learn about DORS. Families, teachers, or others who work with Middle School age students and older students/youth and adults may benefit from all the information Marcia will share. Please register for this meeting, so we can be prepared to welcome you.

Registration for Extraordinary Minds in MCPS Forum is OPEN!

Curious about what supports are available in MCPS for students on the autism spectrum? Join us at out 11th annual xMinds in MCPS Forum on Tuesday, April 2. Our annual Forum informs parents about public school placements and services for students across the autism spectrum in Montgomery County. This Forum is an important service that helps parents participate meaningfully as members of their child’s Individual Education Program (IEP) team.


This year’s breakout session topics include:
